Customer Reviews
I have rarely been disappointed with Sennheiser products and absolutely love this headset - my company recently switched to VOIP and I needed a headset for traveling.
Pros:
Light and comfortable
Excellent sound quality - not quite as good as the HD-650s that I have but hey - 5% of the cost.
One Sided so I can still function normally - also a slight con see below
Flawless installation on Vista and Win 7
Love the fact that this is both USB and 3.5 jacks
Thin Cord - I can barely tell it is there - also a con see below
Even worked on my modded PS3
Cons:
One sided so it does not block out the outside noise but that is the reason I bought it so I can still hear what is going on with my team
Thin cord - has gotten caught twice in my CD tray and this has caused a pinch in it but no issues with the pinch
Microphone is extremely loud and picks up EVERYTHING including sound from an office three doors down through closed doors that I cant even hear - I keep having to lower the volume / sensitivity in every program such as VIOP and Adobe Connect and Skype
Overall I am very pleased with the headset - exactly what I wanted.
I have never owned a headset before for gaming, working on my computer, or skyp. I recently decided to purchase Dragon Naturally, so needed something. I did alot of research using Amazon reviews and with great worry pushed the button to buy these. They arrived in a day, so kudos to Amazon Fulfillment for that. Since I relied so heavily on reviews to buy these, I thought it might be helpful to provide a review for the things I had been looking for, namely mono USB headset that was plug-n-play for use with Dragon at home.
Fit... Yes, other reviewers are correct, they fit funny. They don't feel like they sit naturally on my head. I have a small head (I think it's normal, but when others have put on my hats they have commented that I must have a small head.) The piece on the side that doesn't have an ear piece doesn't sit flush on my head and the ear piece doesn't fit low enough on my ear. Instead of sitting on my ear canal area, it sits more on the top of my ear. Having said that, it wasn't uncomfortable. It didn't hurt, it didn't annoy, it just took a while to get used to. Within 30 minutes, I forgot all about it. For my purposes, it's right on. I wear them for hours at a time and so far, I'm good. If that changes, I will update this review.
Playback Sound... I bought my set for voice recognition software. I'm not using it to talk to others on my computer. If I was, I would have rated this less stars. When I do playback, it sounds like I'm far away. This isn't a problem for my purposes, but if I were skyping, I'd be annoyed.
Voice Sensitivity... Yes, this is sensitive to sound. When my bracelet clanked on my desk, Dragon asked me to repeat that. It didn't type anything, but it did pick up the sound. I spoke naturally, and it caught all my words and instructions. I had the TV playing in the background in the other room and it didn't pick those words up at all. I breathed heavy a few times in frustration, and it didn't type anything. So, for me, this is great.
Out of the Box Use... The package didn't require scissors to open (yippee there). About 10 seconds after I sat down, I was plugged in and going. There is a mute switch on the very, very long cable that I use frequently when I'm thinking or typing or just don't want the words picked up. With the USB connection, I didn't have to pull my CPU out from under my desk and deal with yet more cables. That was one of my key requirements.
Really Long Cable.... Yes, as other reviewers commented on, the cable is very long, but what I've discovered is that instead of being hunched over a keyboard, I've been liberated. I can now lean back in my chair, contemplate the ceiling, swivel back and forth in the chair not to mention get up and turn the lights on, pace back and forth, and/or get files or books for reference. Basically, I can move all over my office without stopping what I'm working on. I use the twist tie to keep it from being too long, but I'm kinda glad it is so long. Big fan and I wasn't even looking for that as a feature.
Improved Accuracy With Dragon.... I don't know if USB is what makes the difference or not. I read in one review that USB was better for Dragon for accuracy. I can't compare since I didn't make use of the set that came with Dragon that had the plugs for the back by the speakers (I have no idea what they are called). So far, Dragon has been very accurate, mostly, but that's because it's still learning my habits. It isn't the headsets fault.
Quality... There were some reviews about the flimsy quality. I refuse to pay a ton of money for a headset. I have other things I'd rather spend my money on. Will they break? Probably if I'm slamming them around or not taking care of my things. The boom mic swings up and down. When I am not using them, I swing it up before I take them off so I don't run the risk of accidentally snapping it off. They don't feel flimsy, but they don't feel professional grade either. They do feel like I got a good product at a good price.
But then again, this is the first set I've ever owned. So take all of that with a grain of salt.
